Before your first Taobao order in Italy, confirm who pays, where delivery ends, the Italian address and who handles import charges and refunds.

AI-generated illustration of choices to check before a first Taobao order; not a live checkout or an actual shipment.
Before buying from Taobao in Italy, connect the purchase to a usable Italian address and an agreed payer for import charges. Being able to pay a Chinese seller is only part of that decision. If the purchase ends at a China address, the Italy delivery arrangement still needs approval.
Use the checks below to decide whether to pay now, ask for missing information or leave the item unpurchased.

Read where this checkout actually ends
Open the selected variant and the actual order confirmation. Does the offered delivery cover your Italian destination, or does it end in China? Do not assume a universal Taobao Italy service—or that every order is excluded. Availability depends on what is offered for the current account, item and address.
If you can place the order yourself, follow the direct Taobao ordering guide for the account and China delivery steps. This page deals with the Italian receiving and charging decisions that must accompany that purchase.
Settle the Italian address before sending money
Give the selected provider the recipient, street and building number, locality and five-digit CAP. Look up the current code with Poste Italiane, preserving any leading zero. For merged municipalities with duplicate street names, Poste advises keeping the former municipality name so the address remains identifiable. A shortened address copied from a map can lose that distinction.
Ask the provider to accept that complete address for the actual goods, rather than answering only “Italy is available”. Mention batteries, wireless functions, liquids, food, medicines or cosmetics before purchasing. Carrier acceptance and lawful import are separate checks; goods for resale also need an importer and product-compliance review.
For furniture, mirrors and other fragile décor, use the Italy measurement and inspection checklist. An accepted postal address does not show that a large item can pass the entrance or use a small-parcel service.
Name the payer for the Italian import charges
Before approving the purchase, ask one practical question: which Italian charges will be prepaid, and which can still be collected from me? Keep the answer with the order. “VAT paid” and “shipping paid” do not describe the same thing.
Italy's standard import VAT is 22%, with reduced rates for some goods. Transport and insurance affect the assessment; the VAT base can also include duty and relevant ancillary charges. For qualifying distance-sale consignments up to €150, the current temporary €3 duty is based on declared goods category, rather than one flat charge per parcel. A separate €2 Union handling fee has applied from 1 November 2026 where those rules apply. Ordinary tariffs, special taxes and product restrictions can require a different assessment. Check the Poste import FAQ and the EU explanation of the two charges.
Do not read “under €150” as “nothing to pay”, or turn the two charges into an automatic €5 for every box. Ask what prepayment evidence the selected service passes to its customs handler. Poste separately identifies its own Diritti Postali; it does not clear every shipment arriving in Italy. Its receiving-from-abroad information helps identify the postal scope. Confirm who actually clears your order and whether that operator's charges are included.
A retail purchase remains a commercial transaction even when you buy it for personal use. It must not be relabelled as a private gift.
Keep a short Italy approval card with the order
Write down these three answers before payment:
| Decision | What you need to keep |
|---|---|
| Italian recipient accepted? | The complete address, current CAP and any necessary former municipality name accepted by the service. |
| Italy delivery included? | Where the seller's delivery ends and the separately accepted Italy arrangement, if needed. |
| Import-charge payer agreed? | What is prepaid, what may be collected later, and who provides the supporting record. |
Also retain each itemized Taobao order and its matching payment evidence. If YDA pays the seller, agree who handles the seller refund and how any refundable balance returns to you. A general account top-up alone does not identify the goods bought.
An unaccepted address, missing product information or unclear import-charge arrangement is a reason to pause. If you may cancel, check the seller's return terms while the item is still in China; overseas return costs explain why delivery to Italy changes that choice.
YDA can review the purchase request, communicate with the seller, receive accepted goods and arrange agreed photos and eligible forwarding. Photos are visible checks, not authentication or safety testing. Send the product link and the Italian recipient details for a current review; YDA cannot fix the final customs charge, approve regulated goods or guarantee clearance or delivery time.
