Before buying from Taobao for Denmark, check who collects the purchase payment, shipping and import charges, and record what remains unpaid.

Buying from Taobao for Denmark can involve more than one payment. Paying the seller may only buy the goods and delivery within China. Before you approve the order, find out who will arrange the journey to Denmark, which Danish import charges have been collected, and who may ask you to pay later.
The useful result is a short payment note for your actual order: what is covered now, what remains unpaid, and who will collect it. A message saying “shipping included” or “VAT paid” is not enough to answer all three.
This guide is for personal purchases delivered to Denmark. Official rules and carrier terms were checked on 8 November 2026. Check the exact destination separately for Greenland or the Faroe Islands; do not apply this Danish import outline to them automatically.
Start with the destination on the order you are paying
Look at the selected product, delivery address and shipping option in your own checkout. Available options depend on the order and account; this guide does not assume that Taobao offers direct delivery to Denmark for every purchase.
If the order ends at a China address, ask who will arrange the onward shipment. If a Denmark delivery option is offered, ask what that price includes. If somebody will buy for you, agree their work and fee separately. Use the direct-buying checkout steps for the platform operation; here, keep your attention on the money still due for Denmark.
Danish import charges can have different collectors
Ask the shipping provider to identify each applicable charge and say whether it is prepaid or payable later. Keep the following separate:
- Danish VAT: the general rate for these imports is 25%. For a non-IOSS import, the tax base includes the goods, freight, duty, the EU handling fee and other applicable taxes. Product exceptions and the collection method still matter. See Toldstyrelsen's consumer import explanation.
- The low-value customs duty: from 1 July 2026, qualifying business-to-consumer distance-sale consignments with an intrinsic value not exceeding €150 can attract €3 per goods item. This is a customs grouping, not automatically each physical piece or each seller. The Danish low-value duty FAQ explains the scope and exceptions.
- The EU handling fee: since 1 November 2026, the applicable non-EU webshop-to-consumer imports attract €2 per goods item, regardless of value. It is separate from duty and a carrier's own charge. See the official explanation of the new handling fee.
- The carrier's service fee: ask the actual carrier what it charges for its work. The amount and conditions are not set by the Taobao product price.
The €150 threshold is not a tax-free allowance. Above it, ordinary product-dependent duty rules can apply. The European Commission's customs guidance explains intrinsic value: separately stated freight is excluded from that threshold, but can enter the duty or VAT calculation. Ask the declarant to check the actual consignment; each seller's checkout does not retain a separate allowance after goods are combined.
The €3 and €2 rules also depend on the type of sale and transport arrangement. A China warehouse address alone does not establish their treatment. Ask the shipping provider how the transaction will be declared rather than assuming every parcel follows the same formula.
If the checkout shows VAT, ask what happens at import
For eligible sales in consignments up to €150, IOSS allows VAT to be collected at sale and qualifying imports to avoid a second import-VAT charge. It does not mean every import-related cost is included. The European Commission's IOSS information sets out the scheme.
Ask the seller or platform whether this order uses IOSS and whether the required details will reach the carrier electronically for the declaration. Keep the VAT invoice and payment record. A screenshot saying “VAT paid” cannot by itself replace the declaration information, and a later warehouse shipment must not be assumed to inherit IOSS treatment from an earlier domestic purchase.
Do not add 25% to every listed charge using one universal formula. The Danish low-value FAQ distinguishes the treatment of the €3 duty under IOSS from a non-IOSS import. Have the provider explain the basis used for this order and identify any amount still to be collected.
Check the clearance service before choosing the carrier
If the proposed service uses PostNord, read its current import-collection terms before dispatch. Those terms do not offer self-clearance. If you want to make your own declaration, you need to arrange a suitable alternative carrier before the goods are sent.
PostNord separates public import charges from its own service fee and the VAT on that fee. Ask a “tax-included” provider whether all of these are covered and who handles the declaration. Do not assume that paying a forwarder appoints it as your Danish customs representative.
Keep a payment note you can check against the next request
Use this note with the seller, agent or shipping provider. Fill it with their answers, not estimates presented as confirmed prices:
Purchase payment: goods, China delivery and agreed purchasing work included: (to confirm). Receipt issued by: (to confirm).
International shipment: provider and service: (to confirm). Quote confirmed now or after packing: (to confirm). Included charges and exclusions: (to confirm).
Denmark import charges: VAT collection method: (to confirm). Duty, EU handling fee and carrier fee included or still payable: (to confirm). Party responsible for each unpaid amount: (to confirm).
My next action: pay the agreed purchase amount / request the missing cost scope / hold this item pending a product or route check.
If a figure is in CNY, EUR or DKK, keep the currency beside it and ask about conversion and payment charges. A shopping exchange rate is not necessarily the customs rate. The shipping quote enquiry can start the transport comparison; ask which amounts remain estimates and which Danish charges are outside that quote.
For a warehouse shipment, keep each product link, selected model or SKU, quantity, material, brand or manufacturer information where available, order confirmation and payment evidence. Use the warehouse receiving checklist to connect them to the parcels. Denmark's new electronic declaration requirements add product identification for qualifying non-EU consumer consignments with intrinsic value up to €150. Before accepting a supposedly all-inclusive price, ask the provider whether the actual product records are sufficient to prepare that declaration. If they are not, the quote has not resolved the import work.
Hold the purchase if the product needs a different check
A workable payment route does not establish that an item is suitable or admissible. Batteries and liquids need a route check; medicines, supplements, food, plants, animal products and weapons can need a separate authority or permission check. Some goods are prohibited. Send the exact product details before paying and start with Toldstyrelsen's restricted-goods information.
For a lamp, use the Denmark lamp compatibility and installation checks. Business orders and resale stock need separate treatment; Danish importer registration requirements are outside this personal-shopping guide. A private delivery address does not turn business stock into a consumer purchase.
Send YDA Express the item links, selected options, Denmark destination and amounts already paid. Ask for the missing cost scope using the payment note. YDA can assist with agreed buying, receiving, visible checks, repacking and shipping comparison; a photograph does not certify safety or authenticity, and these services do not determine final taxes or release. Review the actual goods and packing before separately approving dispatch, and recheck the then-current destination rules and available service. Hold the shipment while essential product or import questions remain unanswered.
