Before buying from Taobao in Iceland, decide who pays, check the ISK charge, keep purchase evidence and separate your China warehouse address from Iceland delivery.

Before paying for a Taobao order from Iceland, check the charge you will actually pay in ISK and who can supply the purchase records for the Icelandic recipient. Buying assistance is useful if you cannot complete the payment or obtain those records; otherwise, a China receiving address and forwarding may be enough.
An international card being accepted does not confirm delivery to Iceland. Check the destination, shipping service and payment options shown for your exact order; this guide does not assume that Taobao offers an official Iceland route.
Policy and payment information checked: 8 November 2026. This guide covers personal purchases of ordinary new clothing and non-hazardous stationery. Commercial orders and regulated products need a separate check.
Decide who will keep the records for the Icelandic recipient
Before paying, agree whose name will be used for delivery in Iceland and who will keep the itemised purchase evidence. Iceland Revenue and Customs explains that the importer is responsible for the information supplied, and missing invoices can hold up clearance.
If you pay Taobao yourself, keep the itemised order, actual payment and any discounts or refunds together with the China tracking number.
If an agent buys for you, ask before payment what itemised record you will receive. A single wallet top-up or an undivided payment to an agent may not explain the goods inside an Iceland-bound parcel. Ask for the product amounts, China delivery, purchasing fees and later international freight to be distinguishable. Whether further evidence is required is for the Icelandic carrier or customs broker to decide.
Ask the agent to confirm this before taking payment, rather than trying to reconstruct the purchase when Iceland requests evidence.
Check the card charge in ISK before choosing how to pay
Use only the payment methods offered in your own Taobao checkout. Alipay's official help centre has an international-card section, but that does not establish that every Iceland-issued card, account or product will be accepted. If payment fails, keep the error message and ask the platform and your card issuer what needs checking before trying another payment.
For an Icelandic card, compare the transaction currency, the exchange conversion and the issuer's foreign-currency charge. The Central Bank of Iceland's consumer guidance explains that foreign-transaction costs vary by issuer; an offer to pay in ISK can also contain conversion charges. Ask your issuer for your card's terms instead of applying a percentage found in another buyer's screenshot.
For an agent quote, ask which currency and conversion apply, and which fees remain payable later. The ISK debit for goods is not the delivered cost in Iceland.
Use two separate address records
The Taobao delivery address is the seller's destination in China when you use a forwarder. Copy the warehouse's current address, contact number and account identifier exactly as supplied. The China forwarding address guide covers those fields in detail.
Your Iceland delivery record is separate. Info Norden notes that an Icelandic identification number is used for many local services. If the chosen carrier's registration or clearance process requires one and you do not have it, ask how it can handle your delivery before buying. Confirm the recipient's name, postcode and contact details too; the Chinese warehouse code does not replace them.
Also confirm who will answer a request from Pósturinn if it handles the arrival. Its guide to shipments from abroad describes requests for receipts or other value evidence. Agree who can provide those records now; the actual submission belongs to the arrival-stage process.
Leave room for the Iceland costs that checkout may exclude
Iceland is outside the EU, so an EU checkout or IOSS explanation does not settle an Iceland import. Skatturinn's online-shopping guidance includes transport and insurance in customs value. The usual import VAT rate is 24%, with 11% for specified categories. VAT is assessed on customs value plus duty and other charges imposed at customs; postal service fees are separate. The final treatment depends on the goods.
The ISK 40,000 limit in Pósturinn's declaration conditions concerns simplified E3 processing, not tax-free shopping. Its conditions include private, non-commercial imports, a total below the limit including shipping and other sender costs, value evidence, no more than three customs categories and no import-licence goods. Business imports and ineligible consignments need the appropriate standard procedure. Do not split or understate an order to disguise its value or purpose.
For packing and cost comparisons, use the existing Iceland consolidation-or-split guide.
What should you send before approving the purchase?
Send YDA Express the Taobao links, variants, quantities and Iceland postcode, and say whether you can pay the sellers. Confirm the purchase record, China address, available Iceland service and excluded charges before approving the order.
Keep this first basket simple. Food, medicines, plants, animal products, weapons, liquids, batteries and radio equipment fall outside this ordinary-goods guide; check the relevant Iceland import restrictions and route requirements before buying them. Seller acceptance, a CE mark or warehouse receipt is not an import approval.
YDA Express can assist with purchasing, seller communication, receiving records and agreed visible checks. It cannot guarantee card acceptance, authenticity, permits, tax or clearance. If the payment route, purchase evidence or import eligibility remains unclear, pause the order. Recheck platform rules, goods and available transport before purchase, after warehouse receipt and before dispatch: the date above records a check, not a promise that rules will stay unchanged.
