Compare China-to-Italy quotes using the same packed cartons, Italian CAP, delivery scope and import-charge arrangement before approving dispatch.

AI-created illustration for this guide; not a customer shipment, carrier quotation or warehouse photograph.
For shipping from China to Italy, compare written quotes for the same packed cartons and the same complete delivery address. A low price per kilogram does not tell you what you will pay when the parcel reaches your Italian address. Get the destination charges and delivery conditions in writing before choosing.
This page provides a comparison sheet, not a published YDA Express rate or a promise that a particular service is available. Rules and official information were checked on 8 November 2026. Ask for the current quote again if the contents, packaging, address or dispatch date changes.
Put the Italian CAP on both quotes
Send the full street address, house number, apartment or intercom details where needed, locality, province and five-digit CAP. Keep any leading zero. Use the same spelling and address on every request instead of asking for a price simply “to Italy”. Poste Italiane explains the CAP system and its current updates.
Check the street and locality together. After municipalities merge, the same street name can occur in more than one former municipality; Poste advises retaining the former locality in the address where needed to identify the recipient. If this affects your address, resolve it before the warehouse prints a label. A postcode update is also a reason to check the current official record rather than copy an old parcel label.
Then ask each provider to check that exact CAP against the proposed carrier and service. UPS Italy lists extended or remote-area charges and other surcharges. That does not mean every Italian island or rural address carries the same charge. Ask for the result for your postcode, the amount if applicable, and whether it is already included. A check for one carrier does not settle another carrier's quote.
Separate the Italian destination charges
“Door to door” describes a delivery scope; it does not, by itself, tell you who pays import charges. Ask the quotation provider to mark each applicable charge as included, payable separately, or still unconfirmed.
- Import VAT: Italy's standard rate is 22%, with reduced rates for some goods. It is not necessarily 22% of the shop price alone. The EU import-VAT calculation rules include relevant duty and costs such as transport and insurance in the taxable amount where required and not already counted.
- Customs duty: do not accept an old “under €150 means duty-free” assumption. Current EU small-parcel rules include a temporary €3 duty per goods category for relevant low-value imports from 1 July 2026. Other imports can require normal tariff treatment; product classification and the applicable procedure matter.
- Union handling fee: from 1 November 2026, the distinct €2 fee applies to relevant distance-sales imports. An item is a customs-declaration grouping, not automatically each physical unit. Ask how the actual contents will be counted; do not budget a universal €5 per parcel.
- Carrier or postal clearance charges: these are separate from tax. If Poste Italiane will handle the parcel, its customs FAQ distinguishes import VAT, duty, the Union handling fee and postal charges. If another operator is responsible, ask for that operator's applicable charges instead.
Ask who files the declaration, who is identified as importer where required, which charges the quote covers and what evidence you receive. A “tax included” message needs a written scope and exclusions. Do not reduce the declared value or describe a purchase as a gift to make two quotations look comparable.
Copy this card for each proposal
Leave unanswered fields visibly blank until the provider replies. These are fields to complete, not sample prices.
| Quote field | Written answer to obtain |
|---|---|
| Italian destination | Full address, locality, province and CAP used for pricing |
| Parcel data | Number of final cartons; each carton's outside dimensions and packed weight |
| Service | Proposed route or service name and Italian delivery operator, if confirmed |
| Weight charged | Chargeable weight, rounding rule and minimum charge |
| Transport total | Currency, quote date, expiry date and included origin work |
| Extra transport charges | CAP result, fuel and any applicable handling or size charges |
| Import charges | Each included or excluded tax/fee, payer and declaration arrangement |
| Delivery scope | Address delivery, collection, unloading and any access conditions |
| Time and claims | When the estimate starts, exclusions, claims deadline and compensation limits |
Compare only after both cards use the same cartons and destination. If one quotation includes a charge and the other leaves it unknown, you do not yet have two comparable totals. Ask for the missing answer rather than assuming it is zero.
Check what happens at the Italian address
Ask whether the proposal reaches your street address or ends at a depot or collection point. For a heavy carton, ask specifically about unloading, stairs, floor delivery, an appointment and what happens after an unsuccessful attempt. Do not infer these services from the words “home delivery”.
For an island or a locality with access restrictions, have the provider confirm service availability, the CAP surcharge result and any different delivery conditions together. If the provider proposes an alternative address, get the recipient's agreement and a revised quote before dispatch. Do not replace the real address with a nearby city merely to obtain a lower estimate.
An estimated transit time also needs a starting point. Is it counted from collection in China, acceptance into the international service or another event? Ask whether customs processing and Italian final delivery are included. A fast estimate with an unclear starting point is difficult to compare with an estimate measured to your address; neither should be treated as guaranteed delivery.
Give the warehouse the parcel facts behind the quote
For Taobao or Pinduoduo purchases already arriving in China, keep the seller-order and domestic-parcel references so the warehouse knows which goods to include. For a 1688 order, obtain the supplier's carton list and state whether it is a sample or stock for resale; a seller's product weight is not the packed shipment weight, and a personal-parcel quote should not be assumed suitable for commercial stock.
Ask for final measurements after the packing work you approved. If only an estimate is available, mark it as provisional and ask what triggers a revised quote. The separate guide on why a shipping estimate can change after repacking explains that stage. For mirrors, lamps or furniture, use the Italy home-décor measurement and inspection checklist before approving protection or removing packaging.
Send exact product links, model, materials and intended use for acceptance checks. Flag batteries, liquids, powders, food, cosmetics, medicines, blades, plant or animal materials and branded goods before including them. A freight price is not permission to import: the EU explains that customs also checks prohibited or restricted goods. Product-specific permits, safety evidence or importer requirements may need separate review. A CE logo or a warehouse photograph does not settle that review.
Approve, ask again, or pause
Approve a current proposal when the final cartons, Italian address, acceptance, service scope, charges and payer are documented and acceptable to you. Keep that quote with your dispatch instruction.
Ask for a revised proposal when packing changes, a different CAP is used, the quote expires or an excluded fee is still unknown. The cheaper headline is not yet the cheaper delivered option.
Pause dispatch when the product's import conditions are unresolved, the provider cannot explain the tax arrangement, or delivery to your actual address is unconfirmed. YDA Express can help assemble available parcel records, arrange agreed packing and compare available transport proposals. It cannot decide the final customs classification, replace the importer or regulator, guarantee a fixed tax bill or promise clearance and arrival dates.
Send YDA Express the completed address and carton record, then ask for the comparison card to be completed for the services currently available. Recheck the goods before purchase, the received items after arrival and the applicable Italian rules and carrier conditions immediately before dispatch. The check date above is not a guarantee that a later shipment uses the same rules or price.
