Before paying for a Bluetooth keyboard on Taobao, ask for the selected variant’s Japanese Giteki mark, number and supporting records. Resolve module and 2.4G claims before choosing delivery to Japan.

Before paying for a Taobao Bluetooth keyboard for use at home in Japan, ask the seller to connect your selected variant, its Giteki marking and its certification record. “We ship to Japan” or a certificate pictured elsewhere in the listing does not make that connection.
This guide is for a Japan resident buying one new keyboard for personal use, not resale or an experimental-radio project. It covers the keyboard and any supplied wireless dongle; a bundled mains charger needs a separate product-safety check. Sources checked: 2 November 2026.
Send a question about this variant, not the whole listing
A listing may combine wired-only, Bluetooth and “three-mode” versions under one product name. Save the option you intend to select, including its full model suffix. Ask whether USB carries keystrokes or only charges the battery, and which modes use Bluetooth or a proprietary 2.4 GHz connection. A cable in the box does not identify the radio equipment.
Use this enquiry, replacing the brackets with the actual listing option:
I will use [selected variant and full model] in Japan. Please send current photos of the model and Japanese Giteki mark with its full number for the version you will supply. If the mark is electronic, show how it is displayed. Please identify the records covering its Bluetooth mode, any separate 2.4G mode and supplied dongle. If certification relies on an internal module, explain which module and antenna this version uses and how the records apply. Please do not substitute another revision without my agreement.
The aim is a reply you can check, not a promise that a warehouse can obtain certification after purchase. Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) explains that users should check Giteki before buying or operating wireless equipment; foreign CE or FCC markings are not substitutes. See the MIC-authored April 2026 explanation, printed pages 24–25.
What the seller’s marking evidence actually shows
An underside photo should make both the model and the Giteki mark/number readable. Request another angle when the relevant area is cropped or the number is blurred. An invoice establishes what was billed; it does not show the marking on the equipment.
An electronic label needs its display method. MIC’s March 2026 marking explanation, pages 9–11 includes display on the equipment or a connected external display. Ask for the manufacturer’s instructions and a demonstration tied to the offered model. A seller’s webpage showing a logo is different from the equipment’s regulatory display. Packaging-only evidence needs an explanation of the applicable marking arrangement, not an assumption that any box photo is sufficient.
“The internal module is certified” can be a relevant answer. TELEC, a Japanese certification body, explains in FAQ 17–18 that an unchanged certified module, including its antenna, may be incorporated without fresh certification of the product; repeating its mark on the outside of the finished product is optional. Therefore, absence of an outer keyboard sticker alone does not settle the question. Ask the manufacturer to identify the installed module, its marking, antenna and the conditions supporting this particular configuration. A certificate for a chip name alone leaves that link unresolved.
Do not open the keyboard or ask the warehouse to alter its markings. If the explanation requires internal evidence, obtain it from the manufacturer or ask the responsible certification body or MIC’s regional communications bureau how to resolve it.
Follow the number to the equipment it identifies
Use the MIC equipment search linked from TELEC FAQ 11. Copy the actual number accurately; a logo without the accompanying number is not enough for this search. The number can lead to the holder, equipment type/model and radio specifications, as MIC’s March explanation describes. Save the result and the date you checked it.
Compare that result with the seller’s evidence. A manufacturer or module model may differ from the retail name; ask for the document connecting them rather than guessing from a similar name. Likewise, a Bluetooth record does not by itself establish the scope of a separate proprietary 2.4G mode. Ask which record covers each radio configuration you intend to use and whether the dongle has its own relevant radio equipment.
If the number cannot be found, request the certificate and the issuing body’s explanation. A failed search alone is not a definitive ruling that the product is unlawful. A number that exists for unrelated equipment is not a satisfactory answer either. Keep the order unpaid while the mismatch remains unresolved.
Do not base this resident mail-order purchase on a claimed “90-day tourist allowance.” The government’s 10 April 2025 parliamentary explanation concerns qualifying equipment personally brought into Japan by someone entering the country. It is not a general permission for a keyboard delivered to a resident. Research/experimental procedures are also separate from ordinary home use.
Keep the answer attached to the keyboard you order
Your purchase record should be short enough to use when the parcel arrives. Keep the selected option/model, supported radio modes, marking photos or display instructions, certification number and saved result, plus any manufacturer explanation linking a module or retail revision. Record unresolved questions explicitly; do not fill a missing number with an example copied online.
A useful order instruction is:
Supply only the documented variant. At receipt, photograph the accessible model/marking area and supplied dongle, and compare them with the saved seller evidence before consolidation. Refer any different suffix or marking back to me.
Agree which visible photos are available and whether opening retail packaging is allowed. YDA can relay the questions and arrange agreed visible checks. Those photos cannot authenticate a certificate, prove hidden radio construction or certify lawful operation in Japan. If the received version differs, use the wrong-item and missing-parts procedure while the seller’s confirmed return terms remain usable.
Only then compare Taobao direct delivery and China warehouse consolidation for Japan. Choosing a delivery method does not resolve a missing Giteki answer. A USB-only alternative should be a documented wired-only version, not merely the wireless keyboard switched to cable mode.
Budget and transport still need their own answers
For a rechargeable version, obtain the battery chemistry, capacity in Wh, whether it is installed and whether spares are included. Ask for the applicable battery test summary and send the details to the intended carrier. IATA’s 2026 guidance distinguishes batteries installed in equipment from those packed with it or shipped alone. Carrier acceptance of that configuration does not establish radio-use compliance, and Giteki does not establish battery acceptance. Obtain current routing conditions before dispatch.
Japan Customs gives a 10% standard consumption-tax reference on customs value plus applicable duty and other relevant excises. Its ¥10,000 relief uses total customs value, with exclusions and aggregation rules, not the price of each keyboard. The personal-use valuation method can involve overseas retail value × 0.6 where applicable; MOF’s October 2026 explanation says that method will end in April 2028. It is not a permanent checkout-price allowance. The unselected model’s tariff classification, final valuation and carrier fees remain unquoted here; tax relief does not waive radio rules.
Before release, use the Japan personal-purchase dispatch check for truthful purchase records and shipment details. YDA can discuss purchasing and forwarding within the agreed scope, but cannot issue Giteki certification or guarantee legality, tax, customs release or delivery. Recheck the applicable Japanese rules and carrier conditions before dispatch.
