Budget for the product, purchasing service, China delivery, packing, international transport and destination charges. Learn which costs can be confirmed before buying and which need a packed parcel.

The price on a Weidian listing is only one part of your overseas purchase budget. Before paying, ask for a breakdown of the product cost, delivery within China, purchasing service, payment charges, packing, international transport and any destination charges not included.

There is no single agent fee or shipping rate that applies to every order. Separate confirmed costs from estimates, and ask what information is needed to finalize the transport quote. This helps you decide whether to buy, reduce the order or choose another shipping option without relying on an advertised service fee alone.

If you are new to the process, the China shopping agent guide explains the broader workflow. This page focuses on budgeting for a Weidian order.

Separate the purchase payment from the shipping payment

Confirm when each amount becomes payable. An agent may collect the purchase cost first and quote international shipping after warehouse receipt and packing; do not assume the first payment covers delivery to your door.

Ask for these items separately:

  • Goods: the approved variation, quantity and seller price.
  • China delivery: seller-to-warehouse transport, including separate seller shipments.
  • Purchasing service: the calculation basis, minimum charge and whether it applies per item, order or seller.
  • Payment and conversion: the currency, conversion rate and any separately charged transaction fee.
  • Warehouse work: included photographs, extra checks, storage and packing.
  • International delivery: the route, chargeable weight, surcharges and delivery scope.
  • Destination costs: taxes, clearance or handling amounts not already included.

Request clarification rather than treating every extra service as a hidden charge. The important question is whether it was disclosed and approved.

Compare fees using the same basket

Give each provider the same product links, quantities, destination and requested services. A percentage fee cannot be compared fairly with a fixed fee until you know the minimum and what each includes.

For conversion, record how many RMB your payment actually buys. A conversion margin and a payment-processing fee are different charges, although both affect the amount paid. A market reference rate is not necessarily the rate available for your transaction.

Ask whether a quote includes conversion already. Adding a separate exchange allowance to a converted total can count the same cost twice.

Check packed weight, not just product weight

Transport pricing can depend on both actual weight and package volume. DHL explains actual and volumetric weight; use the divisor, rounding and minimum specified for your chosen service rather than applying one formula to every route.

Illustration only: if a service uses a divisor of 5,000, a 40 × 30 × 25 cm parcel has a volumetric weight of 6 kg. If its actual weight is 3 kg and the service bills the higher figure, the starting chargeable weight is 6 kg, subject to that service’s rules. This does not mean the price is exactly twice a 3 kg shipment: minimums and pricing bands may differ.

Request the final packed dimensions and weight before approving dispatch. The shipping calculator can help with an initial estimate; a final quote needs the applicable parcel and route details.

Build one total without double-counting

Convert all components into a single currency before adding them:

Total budget = goods + China delivery + purchasing service + payment/conversion costs + warehouse extras + international transport + destination charges not included elsewhere.

Hypothetical example, not a YDA Express quote: goods USD 40, China delivery USD 3, purchasing service USD 4, payment/conversion USD 2, packing USD 3, international transport USD 25 and destination charges USD 8 produce a total of USD 85.

If the USD 25 transport quote already includes the same USD 8 destination charges, do not add them again: the total is USD 77. If destination charges are unknown, label the budget incomplete instead of entering zero.

Reduce costs without buying things you do not need

Ask for a comparison of keeping the original packaging, safe repacking and separate parcels. Consolidation can remove duplicated packaging, but a larger box may cross size limits or need a different service.

Do not remove protective packaging, labels or a collectible box without considering damage risk and your intended use. Compression is not suitable for every item or shipping channel; the outer packaging still needs to meet the route’s requirements.

For non-urgent goods, ask about available slower options and their estimated delivery range. Compare the complete cost and restrictions, not just a price per kilogram. Do not buy extra goods solely to make the shipping cost per item look lower.

Confirm service limits and destination charges

Arrival photos are not specialist testing or authentication. Specify the visible checks you need and ask what happens if the item is wrong, unavailable or unsuitable for the chosen route. Confirm return deadlines, return transport and non-refundable work before purchase.

Do not assume a low-value parcel is automatically tax-free. Check the destination’s current rules and the written quote; older US USD 800 assumptions are not a safe budgeting shortcut. CBP’s notice on the suspension of de minimis treatment explains the 2025 change. Any current assessment depends on the applicable rules and shipment.

Ask about any optional insurance separately: coverage, exclusions, evidence requirements and compensation limits matter more than a reassuring label.

Get a quote you can make a decision with

Send the product links, variations, quantities, destination postcode, delivery deadline and packaging preferences. Ask the provider to mark each line as confirmed, estimated or excluded, state quote validity, and obtain your approval before substitutions or international dispatch.

YDA Express offers purchasing assistance and forwarding. If you can buy directly, receiving and forwarding may be enough. Eligible goods can receive up to 180 days of free storage under the applicable conditions; confirm the checks and packing required for your order.

Next step: review the purchasing and forwarding services and request an itemized budget using your actual product links and destination.
