Before buying electronics from Taobao for Ireland, check the exact model, Type G plug, battery details, CE evidence and what a tax-included shipping quote really covers.

Policy and route check: 8 November 2026.
Buying electronics from Taobao for Ireland can work, but do not pay until you have checked four separate things: the exact model, Irish plug and voltage compatibility, battery details, and the evidence needed if the product will be placed on the EU market. A tax-included shipping option can make the import-cost side more predictable when the product and route qualify. It does not make an unsuitable product compliant, remove an importer’s responsibilities, or guarantee customs release.
Use this payment gate before you order
Treat the order as not ready to pay until the seller answers the questions that apply to the product.
1. Match the exact model, not just the listing photos
Send the seller the model or variant you intend to buy and ask for clear photos of the rating label, plug, charger and packaging. Record the input voltage, power rating, battery type and wireless functions. A product page that combines several variants is not enough evidence that the unit you receive has the same specifications.
If you are buying a monitor, router, charger, smart appliance or other connected device, also confirm the ports, frequency bands and the language of the instructions. For a personal-use order, this avoids paying to forward something that cannot be used safely in Ireland. For resale, it is only the start of a wider compliance check.
2. Confirm the Irish plug and power arrangement
Ireland normally uses the Type G plug. Ask for a photo of the actual plug supplied, not a generic “EU plug” promise. The National Standards Authority of Ireland notes that plugs, sockets and leads used in Ireland differ from much of Europe, so a travel adaptor should not be treated as proof that the product itself is suitable. See the NSAI product-certification guidance for the local standards context.
Check the rating label for the supported voltage and frequency. If the item uses an external power supply, identify whether the approved power supply is included and whether a compliant replacement is available. Do not ask the warehouse to power on an item unless the agreed inspection method, plug and voltage make that safe.
3. Separate battery transport from product compliance
Ask whether the battery is loose, packed with the equipment or installed in it. Request the chemistry, capacity, watt-hour rating and any transport documents required by the available carrier. A seller saying “it can be shipped in China” does not confirm that it is accepted on the international route to Ireland.
Battery products may need a different transport option and additional review. For commercial supply, EU battery rules also create obligations for economic operators; the EU Batteries Regulation should be checked against the exact product and business role. YDA Express can review the information supplied and compare currently available routes, but it cannot create missing safety evidence or approve a battery for the carrier or regulator.
4. Decide whether this is personal use or placement on the market
For a single personal-use purchase, you still need a safe, compatible product. If you are importing for resale, business use or distribution, the decision is more demanding. The European Commission explains that importers must verify applicable conformity procedures, technical documentation, markings and traceability before placing covered products on the EU market. A CE logo in a listing photo is not the same as an EU Declaration of Conformity or a complete technical file. Review the EU guidance for importers and distributors.
Ask the supplier which EU legislation applies to the exact model, who the manufacturer is, whether an EU Declaration of Conformity is available, and whether required instructions and safety information are supplied in a language suitable for Ireland. Wireless, radio, battery and mains-powered products can trigger different requirements. If the documents do not match the model, stop before payment and obtain specialist compliance advice.
What “tax-included shipping” should mean in your quote
For an eligible ordinary product and an available route, YDA Express may quote a tax-included option in which the agreed transport and import-charge handling are included in the quoted shipping arrangement. Before accepting it, ask for written confirmation of:
- the product description and quantity covered;
- actual weight, carton dimensions and chargeable weight;
- whether batteries or other restricted features are accepted;
- which import taxes and clearance charges are included;
- what is excluded, such as storage caused by missing documents, regulatory testing, penalties, returns or destination services outside the quoted scope;
- who will act as importer or provide information if the shipment is queried.
Do not read “tax included” as “tax free” or “no customs inspection.” Irish Revenue explains that import VAT and duty depend on the goods, value and method used to collect the charges. From 1 July 2026, a €3 customs-duty charge per distinct line item applies to most e-commerce consignments of €150 or less from outside the EU, while goods over €150 are assessed under the applicable tariff rules. Revenue also explains that VAT is calculated using the customs value plus applicable duty and other taxes. Check the current Revenue guidance for purchases from outside the EU before dispatch.
For many products Ireland’s standard VAT rate is 23%, but reduced or zero rates can apply to specific goods. The correct treatment follows the product, not the platform name. HS/TARIC classification, origin and trade measures may change the result, so do not reuse a supplier’s code without checking the actual item.
What to ask the China warehouse to check
Basic warehouse inspection is useful for visible facts, not laboratory compliance. Ask for a defined set of photos:
- the product and model label;
- the plug and power-supply label;
- battery markings where accessible;
- the manufacturer and traceability information on the product or packaging;
- visible CE marking where the product category requires it;
- included instructions and accessories;
- the outer-carton dimensions and gross weight after repacking.
YDA Express can receive the parcel, record it, take agreed photos, check visible model and quantity information, communicate about a China domestic return while the seller’s window remains open, and compare eligible forwarding options. It cannot authenticate a product, perform electrical-safety testing, issue a declaration of conformity, determine the final tariff classification or guarantee clearance.
If you are buying clothing rather than electronics, use the separate Taobao clothing to Ireland guide. If you are unsure whether you need buying help or only forwarding, first read what a China shopping agent does.
Final go / pause decision
Proceed to payment only when the exact model is identified, the plug and voltage work for Ireland, battery information is accepted by a current route, and the compliance evidence fits your intended use. Then request a written tax-included quote based on the actual product and expected carton data.
Pause the order if the seller will not show the rating label, the battery specification is unknown, the CE documents refer to another model, or nobody can identify the importer and compliance responsibilities for a resale order. A cheap listing is not a saving if the product cannot legally or safely reach the intended user.
Rules, taxes, carrier acceptance and available routes can change. Recheck the product when it reaches the warehouse and confirm the current Irish and EU requirements again immediately before dispatch.
