Taobao buyers in Mexico should confirm presale dates, size charts, colors, seller promises and the domestic return window before consolidating. This checklist connects those platform-side decisions with warehouse inspection and Mexico customs preparation.
Taobao to Mexico: Presale, Size, Variant and Return-Window Checklist
For a buyer in Mexico, the difficult part of Taobao is often not finding a product. It is understanding when the seller will actually ship, whether the selected size or color matches the listing, and whether a problem can still be returned before the parcel leaves China. Those decisions happen before international freight is booked.
This guide focuses on Taobao orders with clothing, accessories and home items from multiple sellers. It is not another general “how to buy from China” article. It explains a practical control sequence: confirm the listing, receive each parcel at a China warehouse, inspect within the domestic return window, and only then decide what should be consolidated for Mexico.
Separate presale time from international transit
Some Taobao listings are presales, made-to-order products or items with a later dispatch promise. The order page may show a deposit, a balance-payment stage or an estimated seller dispatch date. That date is not an international delivery estimate.
Before paying, record:
- whether the item is in stock, presale or made to order;
- whether a deposit and later balance are required;
- the seller's stated China dispatch date;
- the latest date you are willing to wait;
- whether the seller allows cancellation before dispatch;
- which other parcels may be held while this item is pending.
Do not ask a warehouse to “wait for everything” without a cutoff. One delayed presale item can hold unrelated parcels, extend storage and cause other return windows to expire. Use a written consolidation deadline and split urgent goods when necessary.
Confirm the exact variant, not only the product link
A Taobao link can contain many combinations of color, size, set contents and customization. Screenshots of the chosen option are more useful than a bare URL after the listing changes.
For clothing, compare the seller's measurement table with a garment you already own. Chinese size labels are not a reliable conversion to Mexican, US or European sizes. Ask whether the dimensions are body measurements or finished-garment measurements and note any expected tolerance.
For home goods and accessories, confirm material, dimensions, plug type, voltage, included parts, surface finish and whether batteries, liquids or magnets are present. A warehouse can photograph visible labels and count pieces, but a basic visual check cannot prove material composition, performance, authenticity or regulatory compliance.
Make the return decision while the parcel is still in China
The lowest-friction place to correct a wrong color, missing part or obvious defect is usually before international dispatch. However, the seller's return conditions and platform timeline still apply. Warehouse storage time does not extend a Taobao return window.
Give the warehouse measurable instructions, for example:
- Photograph the outer parcel and shipping label on arrival.
- Photograph the product, selected color and size label.
- Count the listed components.
- Report visible damage without removing hygiene seals or retail packaging unless authorized.
- Hold the parcel until a named date for a return decision.

Consolidate by compatibility, not just by seller count
Combining several Taobao parcels can reduce duplicate outer packaging, but not every item belongs in one carton. Separate fragile goods from heavy metal items, protect moisture-sensitive textiles, and do not place restricted batteries or liquids into a route that cannot accept them.
Ask for the packed dimensions and weight before approving dispatch. International transport may use chargeable weight rather than scale weight, so a lightweight but bulky home item can cost more than expected. Prepare the Mexico declaration from the actual contents
Mexico's 2026 General Foreign Trade Rules allow authorized courier companies to use a simplified procedure for qualifying shipments with a customs value of no more than USD 2,500 per recipient or consignee. The rules also set a general global contribution rate of 33.5% for simplified courier imports, subject to other product-specific rules and treaty treatment. Goods shipped from China should not be budgeted as if USMCA thresholds automatically apply.
Simplified treatment may not be available for prohibited goods, products subject to non-tariff controls, goods requiring an exclusive customs office, shipments without a usable value or vague descriptions such as “gift” or “miscellaneous items.” Confirm the current carrier procedure before dispatch; do not split one purchase to evade taxes or formal-entry requirements.
